In a major push toward climate resilience and rural economic growth, the òòò½ÊÓƵ (PCAF) National Sectoral Committee on Coconut held a high-level meeting on July 6, 2026 to map out a new Carbon Financing Framework for Rural Development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized to celebrate World Rural Develop<\/span>ment Day, the special session directly addressed ongoing poverty and food insecurity in farming and coastal communities. <\/span><\/p>\n

Led by Chairperson Charles Avila, the meeting brought together a wide group of government agencies, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), the High Value Crops Development Program, along with private-sector leaders, international non-government organizations, and local farming representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the Philippines hosting about 347 million coconut trees across 3.6 million hectares, Chairperson Avila emphasized that the coconut sector is in a perfect position to attract massive private climate investments.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main goal of the new framework is to set up the necessary digital data systems and clear monitoring tools. These systems will help small farmers easily participate in global carbon markets, creating new ways to earn while fighting climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n
